I started teaching my son flowers:
impatiens, marigolds, begonias, clematis, pothos.
and herbs:
basil, chives.
and vegetables & fruits:
tomato, strawberry, jalapeno.
Because we were playing in our little patio
and they were there.
Then I kept doing it, when we'd walk the dog.
Neighbors had marigolds, impatiens, begonias, too.
but also:
hibiscus, hydrangea,lily, iris, dandylion
and then trees:
oak, japanese maple, catalpa.
and I got lilac & lavendar confused, but them, too.
And that's all I knew.
But I wanted to show him everything,
give him all the right names,
I just decided it was important.
And I think of what else I should teach him:
right & wrong, I guess, whatever that means.
And I can't throw a curveball or do much of anything else that sems important,
so I'll stick with plants,
and just try to stay a step ahead.
